Content
When you study Accounting you will learn about various business structures. During the course, an in-depth study will be made of the sole proprietor business. You will also learn about how GST affects business and about the procedures used to keep control over the cash and stock of the business. You will also learn how the owner communicates information to those who have an interest in the business. The subject will also provide you with the opportunity to use computer applications to keep business records. The use of MYOB, which is industry standard computer software for business, will give you skills in keeping financial records and you will gain spreadsheet skills when completing cash budgets for businesses. You will also learn how to analyse financial reports of a business.
Assessment: You will be required to complete three to four assessment pieces per semester. The assessment will be in-class tests for the practical and theory elements of the course. You will build your skills as you work through the various topics and should expect to substantially improve your accounting ability throughout the course.
Career Pathways: Accounting will be an advantage for you if you want to pursue a career in: Accountancy, Management, Human Resources, Retail, Hospitality, Travel, Law, Tourism, Teaching, Financial Planning, Marketing including International Marketing, Communications and even Biotechnical Analysis.
