Chemistry

Content
In a variety of contexts that may change from year to year based on teacher and student interest and expertise you will participate in a wide range of activities to develop your knowledge and understanding of chemistry and your ability to solve problems in your everyday experience. There is a strong emphasis on practical work conducted in the laboratory. During practical activities you will learn to examine collected data, suggest hypotheses that explain observations and design and conduct experiments. You will develop your understanding of the two main themes of the course, Structure and Reactions, through investigation of real life contexts. Each theme is developed in context using key concepts and ideas that provide for in depth studies.

Assessment: There will be a variety of assessment techniques including Extended Experimental Investigation, Extended Response Task, and Written Tests that will be integrated with your learning experiences. Your exit level of achievement will be based on the fullest and latest information on your performance in four dimensions: developing and applying, knowledge and understanding, investigating and using scientific techniques.

A Sound Achievement in Year 10 Science is the preferred minimum requirement for success in Chemistry.
