Content: The themes outlined below merely comprise an outline for how we intend to approach the course and do not necessarily indicate the order of coverage. It is entirely possible that the sequence of themes shown will change from year to year and over time, as school circumstances change.

Electives may include:
  • Coastal systems and management (Local/Regional)
  • Natural hazards and South-East Queensland (Regional/local)
  • Global population growth and population management (Global)
  • Contrasts in development over time-Sequent occupancy of South Bank (Local)
  • Investigating transportation planning alternatives to ensure that essential qualities of life are not destroyed in southeast Queensland (Regional/Local)
  • Investigating current and emerging issues, and future scenarios in social environments. (Local/Regional)
  • Communities in conflict (Global/Regional)
  • Women in rural Communities
  • Resource management at the school level – maintaining environmental diversity and sustainability of the school environment (Local)
  • Managing nature-based recreation and resources on (North) Stradbroke Island (Regional) South
  • Managing coastal resources Eg Mangroves (Local), The Great Barrier Reef (Regional)
  • Investigating current and emerging local issues, and future scenarios in the management of resources and the environment. (Local)
 
Assessment
Each semester unit will be progressively assessed by using:
  • Content tests for knowledge
  • Essay tests
  • Practical and field study activities
  • Report/investigation
Career Pathways: Professional and Social Services (Law, Teaching, Social Administration), Environmental Management (Architecture, Nature conservation, Town and Country Planning), Business and Finance (Valuation, Exporting, Insurance, Marketing), Leisure, Travel and Tourism (Holiday, Tour and Hotel Management, Air Traffic Control), Information Services (Journalism, Telecommunications, Museums)
Scientific Services (Meteorology, Surveying, Photography, Mining)
Management and Administration (Public relations, Transport, Housing and Local Government)
 
Costs: Covered by Resource Hire Scheme.  However some excursions may require a small individual charge.
