MechatronicsContent: Mechatronics is offered as a one-semester subject, in Semester 1 and repeated in Semester 2.
Through the use of Lego construction sets, students will learn the art of building various robots to suit different purposes. Students will be introduced to the RCX brick with its associated motors, light sensors and touch sensors. Separately and in combinations, these parts will enable students to program robots to roam, dance, play music, escape from mazes and even engage in Sumo matches. The possibilities are endless.
Assessment: Students will be required to complete three (3) or four (4) assessment items. The assessment will be largely practical.
Costs: $50 per semester, payable in advance for each semester. This cost covers consumable items as well as the equipment used for practical lessons and its regular maintenance.
Requirements: Students should be independent learners, have a genuine interest in the subject as well as good problem solving skills and logical thinking. Well above average results in Mathematics, Science and English are good indicators. Note that entrance into this course will be aptitude-based.
