The opening of a school in a remote Papua New Guinea village in January will be a special occasion for Indooroopilly State High School student Jordanna Muddle.
Jordanna used her 13th birthday party last year to fund the completion of the new school in Utukwaf, a remote village in the Oro Province of Papua New Guinea. She invited her friends from school and her netball team to her party, on a Brisbane River cruise boat, and asked them to donate to the building effort in lieu of birthday presents.
A Sydney Morning Herald article about Jordanna’s ‘Party With Purpose’ was shared across the world.
The resulting wave of support has allowed completion of the school, and Jordanna has been invited to attend the opening ceremony on January 4.
