A cast of talented young Indro artists shone in a showcase-style review of acting, singing and dance pieces from a range of musicals in Night at The PDT on Friday.
Director Shailee Thompson said the episodic structure, small case, combination of solo, duet and ensemble pieces, minimal set and costume allowed students and teachers to engage deeply with the rehearsal process as a means of honing skills and developing student ownership of all stages of performance making.
Supported by a band and tech crew, students performed pieces from Hamilton, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, Heathers The Musical, Anastasia, Spring Awakening, School of Rock, Fun Home, Hadestown, Come From Away and The Addams Family.
One of our performers, Tom, said the energy surrounding the cast and their support of each other was amazing. "Even though the program was meant to be only 10 weeks long, I don't think a minute was wasted with the time extension we got. The night itself was astounding with everyone at their peak ability, giving the best show we could," he said.
Cast member Mia said Night at The PDT was an adventure she would treasure.
"Being able to work with such dedicated and passionate teachers and students has provided me with not only new skills as a performer and an artist but also has exposed me to the amazing world of musical theatre, given me new memories and, most importantly, new friends who I can't want to sing, dance, laugh and perform with again in a creative environment. I can't thank Ms P., Ms Hinch and Ms Thompson enough for supporting us through every hurdle and helping us achieve something we can all be proud of."
