Indro Sports Star Profile - Marcus Berehulak

​At just 16, this Year 11 Indooroopilly State High School student is competing alongside men in the National Water Polo League as well as starring at Australian junior level.

Marcus is a member of the Junior Men’s Australian Team who will shadow the current Women’s World Cup team in July to help prepare them for their World Cup competition in Europe later this year. He had played a variety of sports, including rugby, AFL, soccer, triathlons and competitive swimming, until the age of 12 when he was introduced to water polo. Marcus, a Brisbane Barracudas Water Polo Club member, made his debut this year as the youngest player selected in the Men’s National League. He plays for Queensland Thunder men’s water polo team.

TRAINING

Currently trains six days a week at the Queensland Academy of Sport with the National Water Polo League men’s team.

GOALS

Obtain a degree in Sports Science (Psychology) and make the Australian Men’s Water Polo Olympic team for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

PERSONAL MOTTO

“Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard”.

ACHIEVEMENTS

2017

Bronze medallist at the U14 National Championships, Sydney.

2018

July: Bronze medallist at the U16 Pan Pacific Games held in New Zealand.

August: Represented Australia at the Junior Men’s Water Polo World Championships held in Montenegro and the Darko Cukic U15 International Tournament in Serbia.

September: Silver medallist at the U16 Club National Championships in Perth.

2019

January: Silver medallist at the U16 Club National Championships held in Brisbane.

Selected to play in the Men’s National Water Polo League for Queensland Thunder.

May: Silver medallist at the Australian Schools Championships held in Sydney.

Selected in the national schools team to represent Australia in Brisbane in December 2019, playing against New Zealand and South Africa.

HOBBIES

Marcus loves to sleep, eat pizza, and chill with friends in his spare time.
