Kids’ Lit Quiz
Indoooroopilly State High School competes in the Kids’ Lit Quiz, an annual International literature competition for children aged 10 to 13. It puts readers on to the stage and invites them to compete for fantastic prizes. Teams of four students are asked to answer 100 questions on children’s literature across 10 categories.
Opti-MINDS
The Opti-MINDS Creative Sustainability Challenge is an inclusive team challenge which EMPOWERS participants to THINK, CREATE & COMMUNICATE. Opti-MINDS is a creative problem solving event for teams of participants from Preschool to Adult within four divisions. Teams are required to complete long-term, demanding, open-ended challenges from one of the following categories: Language Literature; Science Engineering; Social Sciences. In addition to the long-term challenge, they must complete a short-term spontaneous unknown challenge on the day. The Opti-MINDS Challenge is an opportunity for all those with a passion for learning and problem solving to showcase their skills and talents in an exciting, vibrant and public way.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
The Premier’s Reading Challenge is an annual statewide initiative. The Premier’s Reading Challenge is not a competition but a way to encourage students to develop a love of reading for life. Through the challenge children and students are given an opportunity to develop their appreciation of the English language and are encouraged to explore and enjoy a wide range of literary texts. The challenge runs from May through August every year and is open to Junior School students.
Readers’ Cup
Indooroopilly State High School participates in two different Readers’ Cups throughout each year. There is a state wide and a local competition for young readers. Teams of four students read a set of books, and then compete with other school or public library teams to answer quiz questions from the books. Readers’ Cup competitions challenge students to read widely, work collaboratively in a team and continue developing a love of reading. It allows readers to compete at a regional and state level similar to sporting competitions and to meet other students with an equal passion for books.
