The Guidance and Counselling Service at Indooroopilly State High School further promotes the forward thinking ethos of our school community. We acknowledge that our students are people first and that adolescence can be a challenging time in a young person’s life. Similarly, we acknowledge that emotional and physical wellbeing are critical factors in a young person’s ability to access a meaningful education.
The Guidance service seeks to support the young person to balance the stresses or barriers to learning that sometimes materialise to promote active engagement in the school community. In being active members of our community, students will develop knowledge and confidence to pursue an educational pathway that is suitable to their needs. Additionally they will develop the skills and confidence beyond our confines to create a life that is personally meaningful.
In support of the Indooroopilly vision, Guidance Officers provide Guidance and Counselling services to all members of our school community. This includes parenting information, time management planning, stress management strategies, career guidance, conflict resolution and mediation, subject selection assistance, tertiary education advice, ATAR and Selection Rank information, assistance with negotiating assessment provisions in consideration of mitigating social-emotional challenges (AARA) and the provision of general counselling.
Guidance Officers also specialise in the process of enrolling students from overseas or interstate.

Future Pathways
All students have the opportunity to make informed career decisions as they plan for the transition from school to the next phase of their lives. A variety of in class activities, study and personal growth sessions, presentations and planning processes are available for students at Indooroopilly State High School. We want students to think creatively and confidently about their future career ideas by being curious about what options might be possible, learning what strengths they have to develop and collaborating with others to explore pathways for post Year 12. We hope every student can be enriched to choose pathways that will allow them to interact positively with the world.
