Indooroopilly State High School has a School Based Youth Health Nurse named Emma. Employed by Children's Health Queensland, School Based Youth Health Nurses support the health and wellbeing of state high school students through a combination of whole school health promotion, health education in and outside of the classroom, and individual confidential consultations relating to a health concern.

Students can talk with the youth health nurse about a range of health and wellbeing issues including:

  • Healthy eating and exercise,
  • Relationships,
  • Personal or family problems,
  • Sexual health,
  • Growth and development,
  • Vaping, smoking, alcohol and other drugs.

The School Based Youth Health nurse can also refer to other supported health and wellbeing services to get the best and most appropriate help and support for the young person.

Youth health nurses do not provide the following in schools:

  • Physical examinations,
  • First aid or medical treatments,
  • Medications,
  • Ongoing counselling for psychological problems.

Students can self-refer for an appointment by emailing directly at nurse.indooroopilly@health.qld.gov.au
