Our Vision

We ensure students have equitable access to their learning, through our collaboration with stakeholders, to prepare them for their future.

What we do

The primary role of our Inclusion Support Teachers and Teacher Aides is to assist students to access the curriculum. Building rapport, focusing on individual strengths and providing targeted student-centred strategies is the main goal. We encourage students to gain confidence in advocating for themselves to become positive members of the community.

How we support

Personalised Learning Plans (PLP)
Sometimes students need additional support to ensure they are able to access school on the same basis as others. Together with the parent/carer, we consider strengths and needs of students and communicate these to teachers through the development of a PLP.

Learning Skills Tutorial (LST)
This targeted program is for Year 7 and 8 students who require extra support in curriculum, executive functioning strategies, and technology skills. Students are identified by teachers and support staff, and are invited into the program. The goal of this program is to teach students skills to efficiently access curriculum through developing skills around assistive technology and time management.

ASDAN
This internationally recognised course supports individual learning through areas of interest. Students achieve success through goals and challenges with scaffolding support from their teacher. All learnings are designed to develop skills for learning, work and life. Some of the projects student work on are: school community mural and gardening projects.

Homework Club
Supervised and supported by our Inclusion Support team, students are welcome to complete their homework independently, seek advice on assessment tasks, or receive targeted support on individual work. Homework club is open every morning (except Thursdays) from 8.00am – 8.45am in S03.

Therapy Dogs
Who does not love to interact with dogs! Ludo, Pretzel and Truffles join our team on different days throughout the week. The dogs join in with assemblies, visit exams, attend specific classrooms when needed and hang out in the P Block garden and classrooms.

Individual Curriculum Plans (ICP)
With the goal of working towards accessing learning at the same level of peers, the Inclusion Support Department work with teachers to identify, modify and teach curriculum. Sometimes this is below the student's current chronological year level and other times it is above.

QCIA
The Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement is a program developed to maximise student individual learning during their Senior years of schooling. Our Inclusion Support Teachers work with teachers to identify, develop, teach and assess students who are working towards their personal goals, which can include up to 3 QCE/VET subjects.

External Therapists
We have access to a range of Dept of Education therapists such as Occupational Therapists (OT), Physiotherapists (PT), Speech Language Pathologists (SLP) and Advisory Visiting Teachers (AVT) who have specialist disability areas. Therapists provide targeted skill building to support students to participate in classroom and school activities.

Transition Support
Transitioning into high school can be scary. We work with Primary schools to develop additional visits and programs to ensure we understand student needs and they have additional time to understand and practise being a 'high school student'.

Transitioning away from school can also be scary. We work with students and parents/carers to ensure pathways are developed. We offer Work Experience where possible, and support students to be 'work ready' by creating targeted opportunities to ensure they are confident to leave school.
