BYOx Program

Indooroopilly State High School’s Bring Your Own Device (BYOx) program requires students to bring a compatible personal device for learning.

Devices must meet the school’s minimum specifications and be connected to the school network. The BYOx program enables students to access digital resources, complete coursework and participate in classroom learning using their own device.

Participation in the BYOx program is mandatory for students at Indooroopilly State High School.

Important links for students

Microsoft 365 apps are available free of charge to students enrolled in Queensland state schools. Students can download the apps through the Microsoft 365 portal using their school account.

Students in Years 7 and 9 should ensure that the latest version of the NAP locked-down browser is installed before testing.

Joining the program

The annual BYOx contribution is included in the Student Resource Scheme (SRS).

Students joining the program must also complete the BYOx Charter (PDF, 606 KB).

The annual contribution helps provide:

  • access to Adobe applications through the school’s BYOx licence
  • access to the limited hot-swap loan pool while a student’s BYOx laptop is non-functional

Storage and Schoolwork

Device Storage

BYOx laptops must have at least 256 GB of SSD storage. A 512 GB SSD or larger is recommended for students using specialised applications or working with large media files.

Storing Schoolwork

Students should save all school-related work to their school-provided OneDrive account rather than a personal Microsoft account.

Using the school OneDrive account allows students to access their work at school and at home. It also helps protect their files if their device is lost, damaged or replaced.

Accessories and Additional Recommendations

Required

  • Protective hard case or laptop sleeve
  • Appropriate warranty coverage
  • Device charger

Recommended

  • Accidental damage protection or insurance
  • A battery capable of lasting the school day under normal use

iPads in the Program

An iPad may be used as a limited entry-level option in Year 7 only. It is not a long-term replacement for a Windows or Mac laptop.

An iPad used in the BYOx program must:

  • run iPadOS 18 or later, with all available updates installed
  • use an external keyboard
  • be an iPad model other than an iPad mini, as iPad mini screens are too small for sustained classroom use

Some subjects require applications that are available only on Windows or macOS. Students must move to a compatible Windows or Mac laptop when an iPad can no longer meet their curriculum requirements.
