The Music Acceleration program is an intensive course that provides students with the opportunity to extend upon their highly developed music knowledge and performing skills gained throughout the primary years of education. This program provides an opportunity for students to access an accelerated Music pathway commencing in Junior Secondary.
One of the benefits of being involved in the Music Acceleration course is the opportunity to work with other students who have a passion for, and talent in, Music. Successful applicants will study Music in addition to their other school subjects, gaining a rich historical, cultural and contemporary approach to studying, analysing and making music.
Students who successfully complete the Junior Secondary Music Acceleration Program will continue to complete their Senior Music studies in Year 11 and may choose to study Music Extension in Year 12.
Course requirements: Students need to be able to play a musical instrument, whether it is strings, woodwind, brass, percussion or voice. Students need to be academically minded to be able meet the demands of the music program as well as maintain their other subject studies. Students must be enrolled in the Co Curricular Music Program – either in the Instrumental Music program (Curriculum subject), Indro Voices Choir (Co-curricular subject) or specialist Ensemble/s such as Contemporary Music Ensemble (invitation only).
Preparatory courses: We are proud to provide a unique Preparatory Program for each student successful in obtaining a place in each of our distinct Junior Secondary Programs of Excellence. The focus for these transition programs – one lesson per week after school over six weeks of Term 3 – is to support our prospective Year 7 students to meet other students who will be enrolled the following year, connect and collaborate as a group and, more importantly, begin learning the fundamental skills they will develop as these courses continue throughout their Junior Secondary years.
Students are required to complete a Music Acceleration Application and will be notified if they have been shortlisted.
