The English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) Department provides English language support for EAL/D students through capability development for teachers and support for students. A significant component of this support is aimed at building cultural capital and helping students gain a sense of belonging in the Indro context.
EAL/D learners who are identified as requiring additional support are assisted through the following:
- In-class support when available
- Before school, lunch time and after school tutorials (students opt in)
- English support classes (EAL) that operate as electives for students in Years 7-9
- English Language Tutorials (ELT) for students in Years 10, 11 and 12
- EAL QCAA English subject for Senior students
- High School Preparation Program (HSP) - Intensive English Language classes for international students prior to entering mainstream classes.
EAL/D teachers also support students by working with the classroom teacher. They will engage in collaborative conversations, and provide resources, advice, strategies and materials that explicitly target the specific needs of the teachers and students they are supporting.
