Our Vision
We ensure students have equitable access to their learning, through our collaboration with stakeholders, to prepare them for their future.
What we do
The Inclusion Support Department works alongside students, teachers, families and specialists to remove barriers to learning.
Our Inclusion Support Teachers and Teacher Aides assist students to access the curriculum through:
- Strength-based approaches
- Targeted, student-centred strategies
- Skill development in executive functioning and independence
- Explicit teaching of self-advocacy skills
We prioritise building student confidence, resilience and independence so they can actively participate in their learning and contribute positively to the wider community.
How we support
Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs)
When students require additional adjustments to access school on the same basis as their peers, we work in partnership with parents and carers to develop a Personalised Learning Plan. PLPs outline a student's strengths, areas of need and agreed adjustments. These plans are shared with teachers to ensure consistent, informed and targeted support across subjects.
Learning Skills Tutorial (LST)
LST is a targeted support program for Year 7, 8 and 9 students who require additional assistance with:
- Curriculum access
- Executive functioning skills
- Organisation and time management
- Assistive technology
Students are identified by teachers and support staff and invited into the program. The focus is on explicitly teaching the skills students need to independently and efficiently access their learning.
P-ACT (Path to Action)
P-ACT is a school-based program designed to support students through interest-based, project learning.
With teacher guidance, students work towards achievable goals that build:
- Confidence
- Executive functioning skills
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Real-world problem-solving abilities
Projects may include initiatives such as community mural design or school gardening programs. These hands-on experiences promote belonging, creativity and practical skill development relevant to learning, work and everyday life.
GATE (Gateway to Apprenticeships, TAFE and Employment)
GATE is a structured three-year Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) pathway commencing in Year 10.
Designed for students intending to pursue apprenticeships, TAFE or direct employment, the program provides:
- Smaller class sizes
- Tailored subject offerings
- Early commencement of the QCE journey
- Vocational certificates and applied learning opportunities
Across Years 10–12, students complete a combination of compulsory and elective subjects, including applied subjects such as Social and Community Studies and core Literacy and Numeracy.
GATE emphasises work readiness, independence and employability while maintaining flexible future pathways.
Student Academic Support (SAS)
Student Academic Support is supervised by the Inclusion Support team and provides a structured environment for students to:
- Complete homework independently in a quiet and calm environment
- Seek clarification on assessment tasks
- Receive targeted academic support
SAS operates every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8.00am – 8.40am in S01.
Therapy Dogs
Our trained therapy dogs — Pretzel and Truffles — attend school on various days throughout the week.
They support student wellbeing by:
- Visiting classrooms
- Attending assemblies and exams
- Spending time in the P Block garden and learning spaces
Their presence promotes calm, connection and positive engagement.
Individual Curriculum Plans (ICPs)
Where appropriate, curriculum may be modified to ensure students can access learning at an appropriate level.
The Inclusion Support team collaborates with classroom teachers to identify, adjust and deliver curriculum. Adjustments may involve learning below or above chronological year level, depending on the individual student's profile and goals.
QCIA (Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement)
The QCIA supports eligible students in the Senior phase of learning to work towards individualised post-school goals.
Inclusion Support Teachers collaborate with subject teachers to design, implement and assess personalised learning programs. Students may also complete selected QCE or VET subjects aligned to their pathway.
External Therapists
We work in collaboration with Department of Education specialists, including:
- Occupational Therapists (OT)
- Physiotherapists (PT)
- Speech Language Pathologists (SLP)
- Advisory Visiting Teachers (AVT)
These specialists provide targeted support to enhance students' participation in classroom learning and school life.
Transition Support:
Transition into high school
We collaborate with primary schools to facilitate additional visits, information sharing and tailored transition programs. This ensures student needs are well understood, and students feel confident beginning secondary school.
Transition beyond school
We support students and families to plan post-school pathways. This includes:
- Work experience opportunities
- Work readiness skill development
- Pathway planning for employment, apprenticeships, further study or community participation
Our focus is on ensuring students leave school confident, prepared and future focused.
